I’m glad someone got to play the game. All I get is this:

The Second Gate in the RP1 Easter Egg Hunt Contest opened at midnight last night, and the first enterprising gunter to clear it sent in their confirmation email early this morning. Congratulations to Ken Wilson, who will hold the top spot in the Gate Two leaderboard when it goes up later this week!
Yes, but he would have to be approximately 70 years old, so the real Wil Wheaton couldn’t possibly play himself. Since reading the book, Wil has publicly indicated his desire to play James Halliday in the movie (and not himself). So, the picture stands, like it or not.
This is what I imagine the Time magazine cover will look like in a couple years, minus the horn-rimmed glasses (I thought it looked better without them).
Except that Wil Wheaton exists in the Ready Player One universe so…. yeah, probably not. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Ready Player One - Chapter 2: ”I touched my locker door and it popped open with a soft metallic click. The inside was sparsely decorated. A picture of Princess Leia posing with a blaster pistol. A group photo of the members of Monty Python in their Holy Grail costumes. James Halliday’s Time magazine cover.”

IMHO, this is the coolest of Buckaroo Banzai’s logo’s. This one happens to come off the front of his band’s bus. I love the Art Deco feel it has.
Here’s a scan of my original module:
readyplayerone:
Dungeon Module S1: The Tomb Of Horrors
The original cover of the Tomb of Horrors module for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Notice the lack of an ISBN and the off-set location of the wizard logo for TSR Games. These are the characteristics one should look for if seeking their own original copy of this module since TSR reprinted this a few years later. Later copies had an ISBN number printed on it, and the TSR wizard was centered.
Now, is it just me, or does that buzzard in the lower left hand corner of the image remind you of the birds in Joust?
Cryptic? Looks like a giant IOI to me…
This is the most cryptic damn thing I’ve ever seen related to the Easter Egg so far…
Did another edit so I wouldn’t give anything away.
Gate One down… Now to wait for July 1st and Gate 2:

Ernie announced some big news today over at Boing Boing. Anyone out there interested in winning a DeLorean?
To celebrate the release of the Ready Player One trade paperback on June 5th, I’m holding a contest inspired by the plot of my novel. I’ve hidden an “Easter egg” in the text of both the hardcover and paperback editions of Ready Player One. If readers can find this hidden clue, it will lead them to the first of three increasingly difficult video game challenges. The first video game challenge is an Atari 2600 game that contains another Easter Egg that will lead you to the Second Challenge. Completing the Second Challenge will lead you to the Third and Final Challenge.
The first person to complete all three of these challenges will win the grand prize, a 1981 DeLorean automobile, complete with a Flux Capacitor! I’ll be driving this DeLorean across the country on my book tour this June, so contestants will have a chance to see the grand prize in person at each of my book signings.

Well, I found the first gate pretty easily. I had actually stumbled across the website months ago, but it looked more like a fan-site so I hadn’t bothered. Here’s my screenshot “proof” of the first gate:
